I love dried flowers in many forms...in vases, carefully formed into beautiful wreaths, and even in their "natural state"...hanging in colorful bunches above my head as I work in my workshop! As I have done my best to put together creative DIY kits using dried flowers, however, I have sought to think outside the dried flower proverbial "box" and blend them with other craft mediums like paper crafting, watercolor, and now, embroidery.

"Soft Americana" is a trend that puts a cozy, modern spin on traditional heritage design.  As much as I love the idea of decorating with the "red, white and blue" to celebrate our country, I am usually disappointed when looking for decor. The plastic, glittery patriotic items are in direct opposition to my desire to use natural materials in my space. As a flower grower and dried flower artist, my "solutions" to these type of dilemmas always lean towards the botanical!

It looks dreamy, doesn't it? The white natural linen dress, the rustic basket filled to the brim with wild daisies...the woman is likely walking barefoot through the poppy fields, long hair blowing in the soft breeze. The time has come! The Paper Moon Scabiosa seedlings have been basking in the sun and growing tall in their containers. Our Missouri temperatures have been unseasonably warm...often reaching the 80's during the day and easily staying above 50 degrees at night. Since Scabiosa plants are considered "cool flowers", they can survive cool night temperatures and soil that has not completely warmed yet, so out to the field they go!

Some of the most meaningful pieces I create begin with a simple message in my inbox — a photograph of a handwritten poem, special wedding vows typed with care, or a few lines written years ago for someone dearly loved. My customers ask if those words can be preserved in a way that feels personal and lasting.

The answer is yes — with flowers.

In my studio, I combine custom typography, original watercolor details, and real pressed flowers from my garden to transform those…
